Speaker: Anne Tait
Anne Tait - producer, screenwriter, novelist, playwright, broadcaster and casting director - has spent a lifetime in the film and television world.
Her first job was as Assistant Director in a tiny basement CBC TV studio where five actors, four puppeteers, two huge cameras and a crew produced the Howdy Doody show.
She was the Casting Director for the Stratford Festival, for Mirvish Productions' stage shows, and for many Canadian and U.S. movies and TV series, including Anne of Green Gables, Road to Avonlea, Margaret's Museum, Screamers 2, Terminator 2, the Composers, Inventors & Artists series (9 Emmy nominations), Ready or Not, Goosebumps (Ryan Gosling's first role) … and a Muppets show!
Anne produced the movie Iron Road, a ground-breaking Canada/China co-production starring Sun Li, Peter O'Toole, Sam Neill and Luke Macfarlane. She then wrote the novel Li Jun and the Iron Road, which won two Canadian Best Book Awards.
Anne also hosted a TV public affairs series and her own radio show for CBC. Her plays have been produced on seven Irish and Canadian stages and on CBC Radio. Her work has been recognized with People's Choice and Best Picture awards from film festivals in Rome, the Dominican Republic, and Brantford, Ontario, as well as with Gemini and Leo awards, three Emmy nominations, the Female Eye Film Festival's Career Achievement Award, and Victoria University's Distinguished Alumna Award.
She is currently developing a movie about the Irish poet W.B. Yeats's love for the violent activist Maud Gonne.
