1967—Mike Nichols, director—starring Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, Katharine Ross
In this tale of two families, the Braddocks and the Robinsons, young college graduate Benjamin Braddock has been seduced into having an affair with Mrs. Robinson, while at the same time he is falling in love with her daughter, Elaine. No wonder (as the poster said) that he is “a little worried about his future”. Not just a comedy of relationships, The Graduate spoke directly to the youth of the 60’s, their disenchantment with their parents’ generation, and their unfocused quest for new values (something, say, other than “plastics”). The soundtrack’s Simon & Garfunkel tunes underscore the youth-oriented messages.
